Moments of Madness……or has the World Gone Mad?……

A speaker I saw the other day really made me stand to attention when she reminded me of a definition for Moments of Madness - “Continuing to do the same actions and expecting different results!”. We’re all guilty of this somewhere along the line. I’ve seen it cause the most distress in peoples actions to balance their personal, family and work lives in a way that used to work well…..but not anymore. Unfortunately people are blaming themselves and wondering what they’re doing wrong…..but it’s not just us having Moments of Madness..…..

THE WORLD HAS ALSO GONE MAD!!…. We’re just trying to keep sane in the middle of it all.

The world around us has drastically changed from the days when work used to be about a 9-5pm job and family and personal life worked well around that. The wave of advancing technology puts ‘peer pressure’ on us to work faster, if the computer doesn’t download something in 2 seconds, it’s “slow”! The dawning of the Information Age means we’re not only dealing with more information, more often, but it’s more complex and needs more of my careful attention in less time. Our social and family structures have changed. The standard nuclear family isn’t the only option, strained relationships are up and kids are growing up way too fast. If that doesn’t scare us enough that we’re trying to hold on to some sense of ‘normality’, we also have to deal with the age of terrorism... watching TV, going on a plane and what a bin and car can be used for aren’t what they used to be.

The good old Work/Life balance has become a MYTH. Many clients I’ve worked with are sick of crisis management, feeling down, stressed and just coping. Enough’s enough. So in reducing our Moments of Madness and regaining control, new actions are needed for new results. It’s time to factor in rejuvenation time in and around your work schedules and life’s demands. You’d be amazed at how much time you can gain when you give your body, thinking and emotional systems even a little time out to re-charge and get into peak performance for you.

How many Moments of Madness will you have today??
